Unlock with the correct password — not by bypassing security

OneFileKit unlocks a PDF only when you enter the password that authorizes access or permission changes for that file. We do not guess passwords, run brute-force attacks, or bypass encryption.

After a successful unlock, we write a new PDF without the selected security restrictions and verify that the output opens as expected. Your original upload is never overwritten.

Some PDFs use encryption methods or permission models our converter cannot process. In those cases we return a clear error instead of claiming the file was unlocked.

Security & privacy

  • Uploads are validated by extension, MIME type and PDF structure.
  • Passwords are kept only in memory / short-lived secrets for the current operation — never in analytics, logs, URLs or long-term storage.
  • Incorrect password attempts are rate-limited; no brute force is performed.
  • The original uploaded file is never overwritten.
  • Downloads require a secret token bound to your job.
  • Temporary files are deleted after the configured retention period.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I enter the wrong password?
You will see a clear error asking you to enter the password provided by the document owner. Repeated incorrect attempts are limited.
Is my original PDF changed?

Can every encrypted PDF be unlocked?
Only PDFs with supported encryption that you can authenticate can be processed. Unsupported encryption returns a clear error.
