What happens when you change PNG to PDF?

A PNG is a single image. A PDF is a document that can hold many pages and opens the same way on almost any device. When you convert PNG to PDF, each image is placed on its own page, so ten screenshots become one ten-page PDF instead of ten separate files. That makes them easier to email, upload to a form or print in one go.

The conversion puts your image on the page as it is. It doesn't redraw it or turn it into text. If the PNG contains writing, such as a screenshot of a receipt, the text is still part of the image. To make that text searchable or editable, run the finished PDF through PDF OCR.

How to choose the right PDF settings

Before you convert, you can set:

  • Page size: A4, Letter or Legal for documents you plan to print or submit, or Original to keep each page the same size as the image.
  • Orientation: portrait for documents and phone screenshots, landscape for wide charts and desktop screenshots.
  • Margins and image fit: choose how the image sits on the page, with or without white space around it.

For forms and applications, A4 (most countries) or Letter (US and Canada) is usually the safe choice. For artwork or screenshots where every pixel matters, Original avoids any resizing.

PNG to PDF vs JPG to PDF

Both work the same way, and the tool accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG, WEBP and BMP files in one upload. PNG is usually the better source for screenshots, diagrams, logos and anything with sharp text, because PNG compression doesn't blur fine edges. JPG suits photos. If you have a mix, you can upload both formats together and arrange them into one PDF.

Tips for a clean PDF

  • Start with the largest version of each image. The PDF can't add detail that isn't in the original PNG.
  • Put the pages in order before converting. Drag the thumbnails, rotate any sideways images and remove ones you don't need.
  • Check the limits for big batches. You can convert up to 40 images in one PDF, each up to 50 MB and up to 100 MB in total. For more, convert in parts and combine the PDFs with Merge PDF.
  • Shrink the result if it's too large to send. Image-heavy PDFs can get big. Use Compress PDF before emailing.
