Convert PDF to PDF/A for long-term archiving
PDF/A is an ISO archival format designed for long-term preservation. OneFileKit converts your PDF to PDF/A-1b, PDF/A-2b, or PDF/A-3b, then validates the result before marking the job complete.
Conversion success depends on fonts, color spaces, transparency, encryption, and other features in the source file. We never claim a file is PDF/A solely because a converter produced an output — validation must pass.
Frequently asked questions
What is PDF/A?
PDF/A is an ISO standard for archiving electronic documents. It restricts features that make long-term rendering unreliable and requires embedded fonts and self-contained resources.
Which PDF/A standard should I choose?
PDF/A-2b is recommended for most documents. PDF/A-1b is widely supported for older workflows. PDF/A-3b allows embedded file attachments when safely supported.
Can every PDF be converted to PDF/A?
No. Encrypted PDFs, missing fonts, unsupported color features, or other constraints can prevent conformance. When conversion or validation fails, we show a clear message instead of claiming success.
Do you validate PDF/A conformance?
Yes. Jobs complete only after the output exists and passes validation (veraPDF when installed, otherwise strict structural PDF/A checks).
What is the maximum file size?
By default, PDF to PDF/A accepts uploads up to 100MB (configurable by administrators).
Security & privacy
- Files are validated by extension, declared type and PDF signature before processing.
- Uploads and outputs live in private storage — never under public/static web paths.
- Download links require a secret token bound to your job.
- Temporary files are deleted automatically after a configurable retention period.
